Collecting My Thoughts

I wanted to share a fun thing my friends and I - specifically, my brother-in-law, his brother, and two of our good friends - have started: a card/memorabilia of the day in the group chat.

There are two rules, and they are simple rules:

1) The card or piece of memorabilia has to look cool or be of someone cool

2) It can’t be valuable

We are just showing off for the love of the game right now. It’s mostly been 80s and 90s inserts or a photo of a player looking cool, a fun name from back in the day, or a coach we all remember.

There was a Jerry Glanville card where it looks like he’s holding an old-school Fosters can, but it’s just a giant belt buckle. There was a card from the Nickelodeon series ‘Doug,’ some Drew Carey Show cards, one of the guys had a pizza box autographed by Tim Kurkjian, plus I had a Randy Moss Beanie Baby.

Picking out a card every day is one of the things I look forward to the most. It’s dumb, but it is also super fun. We all get to hit rewind and enjoy each other’s collections and see something hilarious or fun. We all have expensive cards; we’ve all had big hits lately, but what we enjoy most right now is looking back and seeing the fun cards we collected.

We went out of our way to save these cards or protect them. They may not be worth much money, but they are worth our time and effort to hold onto. I figured I’d share this fun little thing we do in the hopes that others copy it.

After all, isn’t this hobby supposed to be fun?
